BIOGRAPHY

It started with a Minolta SRT 101 camera and a couple of lenses in the early 70’s. Growing up on the beaches of Southern RI, my early interest was on landscape photography. I was self taught, experimenting with slides, B&W and color negatives and learning to develop B&W negatives and print contact sheets in a bathroom. In college I tried to play baseball and study engineering at the University of RI, but soon discovered that I could not excel at both simultaneously, and decided to focus on the academics. Needing an activity outside of the library, I got involved with the school paper, The Good 5¢ Cigar, taking sports pictures on a daily basis and ultimately for the yearbook. Summer jobs paid for my upgraded camera system, a Canon F1 and 50, 85 and 200mm lens set. I was able to shoot football, baseball, soccer, swimming, track, wrestling and basketball both on campus and off campus. The highlight being a Christmas basketball tournament at the Providence Civic Center, with Providence College defeating undefeated #1 Michigan in 2 overtimes in the final. That was my first use of Ektachrome pushed to 800.

Following college I worked for AT&T Bell Labs, Prime Computer, Motorola and a couple of startups, Arris Networks and finally Sonus Networks. Photography and golf took a back seat to family and work except for family events and kids sports and activities. My F1 proved to be more than capable during those 20 plus years. In 1999 I retired my F1 with a Nikon F100 and began a renewed interest in photography with auto focus and auto exposure capabilities. Wow! In 2001 I purchased my first digital camera and my dream of having a dark room and enlarger in my home was shattered, but my interest in photography only accelerated. With my kids involved in sports and school activities, both in high school and college, I have taken countless pictures of them and their teams. I have produced many year-end slideshows and prints for the boosters clubs for the various teams. During this time I was asked to take pictures for the yearbook and have been taking them for all sports. I also started a business to sell prints and services after retiring in 2002. My digital darkroom has been built and I have the capability to print up to 17x22 prints.

I am a member of the Stony Brook Camera club where I participate in the local and regional competitions. To further enhance my experience, I have attended a few Rich Clarkson Sports Photography and Moose Peterson workshops.

My current interests have been more nature and landscape photography and drone photography.
